School Readiness

Research demonstrates that school success is a function of children’s cognitive, physical, and socio-emotional well-being. The extent to which children participate in quality early education and child care programs, enjoy the support of nurturing families, and have access to needed health and social services impacts on their development, “readiness” for school, and later academic performance. Unfortunately, many children do not receive the inputs, opportunities, and services that create a foundation for school success. As a result, conditions such as hunger, illness, and emotional distress interfere with learning in children. CHCFC strives to improve child health and well-being - and, in turn, academic preparedness and achievement - by promoting the provision of integrated school-based health and social services for children ages 0-18 and their families. CHCFC works closely with school districts, Prop 10 Commissions, and school readiness sites to develop, enhance, and sustain a range of educational, health, and social services to support children and families’ varied needs.
