Maria Lourdes Brown, MPH
Project Manager


Lourdes Brown is the project manager for the Braddock and Stoner Initiative for Children’s Success (also known as BASICS), which is a population-focused, place-based approach for optimizing the health and development of children, in the Mar Vista area of Los Angeles. Brown is currently a systems change coach for the Early Developmental Services Initiative (EDSI) project funded by First 5 Los Angeles.  Brown also worked on the California First 5 statewide evaluation as a project manager at the UCLA Center.  Prior to her work in the Center, Brown was the lead SCHIP analyst for the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) in the Office of the Secretary’s budget office in Washington, DC. Her work at DHHS included providing the departmental staff with technical assistance on budget and legislative SCHIP proposals to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (formerly HCFA) and the Office of Management and Budget, as well as reviewing SCHIP state plans and section 1115 waivers. She also worked as a health statistician for the National Center for Health Statistics, developing health insurance survey questions for the National Health Insurance Survey. She earned a masters in public health at UCLA in 1997.
