Neal Kaufman, MD, MPH is director of the Division of Primary Care Pediatrics and holder of the Guess?/Fashion Industries Guild Chair in Community Child Health at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  In addition, he is professor of pediatrics and public health at the UCLA School of Medicine and co-director of the UCLA Center for Healthier Children, Families and Communities. Dr. Kaufman is also vice chair of the First 5 LA Board of Commissioners, a government-based, grant-making foundation with the goal of improving the well-being of children by their fifth birthday.

Dr. Kaufman has been a leader in local, state and national efforts to improve the health of children, particularly those who are low income and at high risk. He is an expert in a wide range of areas, including delivery of healthcare to high risk and vulnerable women and children; health advocacy for women, children and families; healthcare for abused and neglected children and adolescents; and house staff education. He advises a number of local, state and national legislators on methods to improve the health of children, families and communities.

Dr. Kaufman has served on the American Academy of Pediatrics' National Committee on Early Childhood, Adoption and Dependent Care, as well as the American Public Health Association's Task Force on Child Health and the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation's National Office of Volunteers.

Dr. Kaufman received his bachelor's degree from Northwestern University and his medical degree from Chicago Medical School. He completed pediatric training at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles and public health training at UCLA.
